Hey People, I’ve Been Busy!

Travel-journal

I know I've been off the blogging radar for a bit, but I've been busy! Gathering, thinking, plotting, scrounging, laying out – all the good stuff – getting ready for a show in November with the lovely ceramic artist, Rita Vali. More on the Two Potters and Friends show later in the fall. But it's never too soon to start as I know November 4th will sneak up on me.

A little peek at some of the journaling kits I've been assembling…

Celestial-1

…still working on the petite kit bags, and some litte journals from tea boxes – BTW I'll be teaching how to make these little journals at my Junk Box Journal class at Two Hands Paperie, November 6, you can check it out here.

And with the cooler temps here, and my autumnal jeans and sweaters calling out to me, I've been itching to turn my hand toward some fiber work in the form of my little fiber envelopes – stitched up with a little strap, perfect for a tube of lipstick, a cell phone and twenty bucks – a little out the door fall accessory.

Drawn-in

Also on my personal radar is this wonderful new journaling book, Drawn In, by Juia Rothman. This was well worth the cover price (and nicely discounted at Amazon). Not the usual suspects, Julia has assembled a talented and varied group of contemporary working artists and designers. LOTS of full-color photographs and just enough writing in a Q & A format to get to know a little bit about each artist, but not drag down the work with too much explanation. But it's the beautiful and big photos that really drew me in. I just never tire of getting to look inside other artist's sketchbooks.

Artist-journal-work

I tend to shy away from "how-to" books on journaling, but this one by the amazing water color artist Cathy Johnson, really delivers both inspiration and simple design and techique ideas. With TONS of color photographs from her amazing journals and a handful of other skilled artists working in a journal format, this one is a cut above the others that I have recentely perused.

Now time to get back to work!

  1. I love the little piles already collected for the kits…I see the Sakura Koi Watercolor Brush, plus lots of color, texture and shape. What great fun. If you might be willing to sell any by mail, I would love to know the price. And yay for your wonderful fish girl.

  2. Hi Fran – Looks lucious! Today I’m tying myself up in the “art space” – really a storage area for paper, pens, paints, etc. that I “might” get to. Someday. Going in today to clear off one flat surface. Just one. Thanks for the art trip!
