In Process

Progress1

It's been another one of those weeks around here. Maybe it's just the energy of early spring spiraling up towards more activity, but I have a lot on my personal plate right now. But…I did sneak in a few hours over at Susan Wechsler's wonderful mosaic studio to work on my mosaic mandala. The bare bones began a couple of weeks ago and my mandala will hang on the wall with a clear cast buddah and a candle to illuminate. For me, this is a lot like collage – with big nippers, china cups and plates, and glass shards.

Classroom

Susan's sunny studio is the perfect place to crack our found and hoarded china to work into our splintered creations. Lots of contemplation and then careful nipping and placing and gluing. It's like a huge jigsaw puzzle, seeing where and how the broken shapes and colors fit together to make a new whole.

Mandalas are centering or focusing tools. They are found in almost every spiritual practice and religion as well as in nature – think snow flakes and nautilus shells. A unified design with a center, and a spiraling out from that center, seems to be written onto our human DNA. To down load free mandala coloring pages, just click here

If you are interested in learning a little more about mandalas, this is a good place to check out as well as this wikipedia page. And Stephanie has been working with snipped tin to create a beautiful, beautiful multi-media mandala here.

I added some new elements and colors to my mosaic mandala this week, but I have a ways to go. A work in progress, just like me. I'll keep you posted on how it works itself out to completion.

  1. Wow! What is on the edges? These are such pretty floral-like images you’re building up. This is going to be a stunner. I look forward to seeing more.
